Papua New Guinea (PNG) is rich in biodiversity. As a 1992-signatory to the Convention on Biological Diversity, PNG contains over 5% of the world’s species in less than 1% of the world’s total land area. PNG is in the middle of the Coral Triangle, between Indonesia and Solomon Islands, which is recognized as the global centre of marine biodiversity and a global priority for conservation – a major revenue source. With clear national commitments for inclusive sustainable growth, ongoing internal and external pressures continue to force trade-offs between extractive and non-extractive growth industries. PNG’s multi-stakeholder approach is supporting the country to navigate these trade-offs and accelerate progress towards the SDGs. This event will be held immediately following PNG’s VNR presentation, as this will be done livestreamed in PNG with stakeholders. Due to the +14 hour time difference, the preference is to present the VNR during the afternoon time slot, followed by the side event in the evening slot
