The Sendai Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM)
The year 2020 marks the cutoff date for substantially increasing the number of national and local strategies for disaster risk reduction as per the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) . Given the horrific disruption caused by COVID-19, especially on the poorest and the most vulnerable, we need to understand and analyse how our commitment to the SFDRR is affecting our preparedness and response to biological hazards. It also will lead us to adopt a holistic and multi-hazard approach – from governance, investment, production and consumption, to our relationship with nature and each other, placing risk reduction at its heart.
