Empowering youth to uphold transparency, integrity and anti-corruption in the fight against crimes that affect the environment

United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime

UNODC’s Global Resource for Anti-Corruption Education and Youth Empowerment (GRACE) initiative aims to promote the role of education and youth empowerment in preventing and countering corruption in every possible manifestation, including the impacts that corruption has on the environment and consecutively on the advancement of climate agenda. By focusing on young people, educators and academics as the epicentre of global sustainable change-making processes, GRACE promotes education and youth empowerment as driving engines to renew and strengthen the international community’s efforts towards anti-corruption.

The event will discuss the importance of pushing the boundaries of science-grounded knowledge on the negative impacts of corruption as it relates to crimes that have an impact on the environment, e.g. to wildlife crimes, crimes in the fisheries sector, forest loss, waste trafficking, geographic relocation of polluting practices, illegal mining etc.,  thus building on evidence-based policy to build bridges among policymakers, academia and civil society to empower youth to understand, identify and adopt measures to address such interlinkages and promote sustainable solutions for the well-being of the planet and all its inhabitants.
