Finding
At the 73rd World Health Assembly, President Xi Jinping stated that China’s COVID-19 vaccine would be made a global public good to ensure vaccine accessibility in developing countries. At the Global Health Summit, China also announced its support for an intellectual property rights waiver on COVID-19 vaccines and proposed an international forum on vaccine cooperation to promote fair and equitable vaccines distribution worldwide. Consequently, by May 2021, the Chinese government provided 300 million vaccine doses in the form of assistance to over 80 developing countries with urgent needs. China has also donated vaccines to UN peacekeepers and announced the provision of 10 million vaccine doses to developing countries through the COVAX initiative. The country was also among the first members of the WHO-sponsored Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT-A) initiative.
