National voluntary reviews will be a core part of the High-Level Political Forum, as recognized in General Assembly Resolution 67/290 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. With the 2030 Agenda in its early stages of implementation, this year’s national voluntary review process will primarily focus on how countries are preparing for and managing their transition towards achieving the set goals and targets. The HLPF will provide an opportunity for countries to exchange experiences and share lessons regarding the initial steps towards implementation.
The event will take place in the margins of the ministerial segment and it will be hosted by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), in cooperation with UN-Energy. Drawing on national voluntary reviews that will be presented this year, the event will focus on how countries are approaching SDG7 implementation at the national level. The event is also meant to share thoughts and lessons on the role of national voluntary reviews as a tool for highlighting progress, challenges and opportunities towards advancing SDG7.
Format:
All accredited participants of the HLPF and the ECOSOC Development Cooperation Forum are invited to attend. The event will comprise two main segments: a first one featuring presentations by Member States on energy in the national voluntary reviews, followed by an interactive dialogue on the perspectives of the UN system and partners on the implementation of SDG7 at national level, and on the role of national voluntary reviews moving forward. Participants will be invited to speak from their seats.
