CANCELLED: Leveraging education for empowered, safe and healthy adolescent girls and young women in Africa – the Education Plus

CANCELLED

UNAIDS

This will be an interactive and dynamic discussion with participation of high-level representatives from African and partner governments, UN and other development partners and young women’s movements to promote awareness and mobilise commitment for the Education Plus initiative.

This high-level initiative, co-convened by UNAIDS, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF and UN Women, and launched in several countries in Africa, is focused on a rapid scale-up of multisectoral action and investments in response to the alarming numbers of new HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women in sub-Saharan Africa. Its vision is a world in which every adolescent girl and young woman completes secondary education and is empowered to lead a secure, healthy, fulfilling and productive life, free from gender discrimination, violence and HIV.

The initiative contributes to the achievement of SDGs 3, 4 and 5, among others.
