Global Health Workforce Network
Building back better from COVID-19 while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development requires advancing a human-centred recovery. The health and care sector, with 67 % of the global workforce consisting of women, is uniquely positioned to make tangible progress in this regard. However, it is imperative that the existing gender gaps in the sector are addressed and improved. Notably among these are pervasive gender pay gaps in the health and care workforce. This event will launch the first ever sectoral gender pay gap report produced jointly by the International Labour Organization and the World Health Organization : “The gender pay gap in the health and care sector: a global analysis in the time of COVID-19”. The aim of the event is to bring together ministries of health, labour and gender to discuss the report’s findings and how we can work together to drive commitment to integrated policy action for gender equality, decent work and economic growth, and good health and wellbeing.
Closing the gender pay gap, promoting decent work opportunities and conditions for all, and achieving gender parity in the health and care sector can unlock the full potential of the sector as a catalyst of women’s economic empowerment, decent work and inclusive growth, and health for all.
