Educational background in Brazil - Response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Combating the School Dropout.

Fundação Abrinq pelos Direitos da Criança e do Adolescente

Fundação Abrinq invited the Special Advisor to the President of the General Conference of UNESCO Mr. Murilo Vieira Komniski, and Ms. Elisa Sohlman, Executive Director at the Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Sweden, to discuss the Goal 4 – Quality Education, the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and educational background in Brazil.

In the last two years, the efforts required to face the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), in Brazil and worldwide, have shown that the historic inequality in the conditions of access, and offer of public services has a determining influence on the possibilities of planning, readjusting, and maintaining the guarantee of fundamental rights, such as the right to education.

According to the survey published by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira – INEP (July, 2021), 99.3% of Brazilian schools suspended classroom activities during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fundação Abrinq will also discuss the main risks resulting from the suspension of classes, which can affect the school calendar, setbacks in the educational process and in student learning, structural and social damage to students and low-income families, and the school dropout rate.
