Together with partners, GPE will co-host a virtual side event for HLPF that will discuss barriers to education access that have been exacerbated by COVID and how governments are working to support students to overcome those barriers. Aligned with the HLPF 2022 theme of “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” The discussion will focus on key issues of inclusive education in a COVID context, including the gender digital divide, and will look at how countries are transforming their education systems and addressing those barriers.
This is a key opportunity to maintain momentum on ongoing conversations on education transformation (including at the Transforming Education Pre-Summit and Summit) and to hear from young education activists and policymakers on the critical need for sustained domestic and external financing to build more inclusive education systems and close the gaps exacerbated by COVID. The event will also highlight youth actions for an inclusive COVID recovery in education.
This event will feed into ongoing conversations on country work on systems transformation and lessons learned and will incorporate youth perspectives on outcomes of national consultations and actions in the lead up to the Transforming Education Summit.
