Gender Matters in Science and Technology and Innovation in Namibia and South Africa

Permanent Mission of Namibia to the United Nations

Join the meeting here

Namibia has been able to meet many national developmental priorities in the areas of food and Agriculture, human health, water resources management, energy planning, marine and coastal environment, human resources and capacity building through the platform of the IAEA Technical Cooperation Programme.

South Africa is deeply committed to redoubling its own efforts at gender mainstreaming and the advancement of women and youth in science and technology. It is for this reason that we are encouraged that the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme has shown the Agency’s dedication to supporting young women from all regions, with the aim of increasing the number of women in the nuclear field and to build an inclusive and geographically diverse workforce.

Namibia, in collaboration with the South Africa, and the IAEA will showcase aspects of the benefits of its technical cooperation with the IAEA, focusing on the intersection of human resources, capacity building and education with gender equality.   Under the IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) several fellows in both counties have been awarded opportunities to pursue their studies.  Several Namibian and South African scientists have been funded by the IAEA through for training in nuclear science and technology related programmes.

Namibia continues to promote Gender Equality nationally, resulting in an increased participation of women in IAEA programmes and activities over the years.
