"Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but the necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world”

The sexual and reproductive rights of women and girls are essential to the achievement of human rights and gender equality.  Comprehensive Sexuality Education from a based rights and intersectional approach is one of the most powerful and transformative tools to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. It is the space to understand sexual and gender diversity and promote non-discrimination and equal affective relationships. It is the tool that transforms relationships between genders, eliminating relationships based on power and oppression, contributing to the eradication of gender-based violence.

A side event is proposed on the importance of sexual and reproductive rights as human rights with a special emphasis on the importance of Comprehensive Sexuality Education and the necessary interconnection between SDG4, SDG5 and SDG17.

We wish:

  • Provide examples of good practices on the integration of Comprehensive Sexuality Education from different regions of the world built thanks to strategic alliances between the feminist movement, government institutions and UN Agencies.
  • Provide recommendations to advance in the recognition of Comprehensive Sexuality Education as a human right in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  • Draw attention to the growing attacks on Comprehensive Sexuality Education worldwide
