UNANIMA International
Grassroots members are an indispensable part of the monitoring and accountability framework for the SDGs and have been instrumental in advancing the 2030 Agenda at the local level. The work of Catholic Sisters and women religious, in particular, has improved educational outcomes in some of the world’s poorest countries, empowered women in desperately volatile contexts, and built global networks for effective environmental advocacy.
Through this event, UNANIMA International and the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) will bring to Member States the distinctive voices of Catholic Sisters – women leaders supporting marginalized communities around the world – with a strong call to action on SDGs 14, 15 and 17, under review at this Forum.
We believe it is vital to acknowledge that millions of vulnerable people experience significant obstacles in affirming their rights to participation, an observation echoed by many other grassroots organizers, activists, and leaders. Sisters and others on the frontlines are equipped to inform strategies based on the lived experiences of marginalized communities, and their expertise must be heard and included at all levels of global policymaking.
