Rebuilding Resilient Sustainable Societies: The Private Sector Takes Action on SDGs

Business and Industry Major Group, with the International Organization of Employers (IOE) and the United States Council for International Business (USCIB)

This side event will highlight priority actions, policy requirements, and innovations of business and employers groups focused on restoring livelihoods and accelerating a sustainable pandemic recovery that addresses challenges of energy and food security and advances education and inclusion.  It will relate to this year’s HLPF theme, “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.

Speakers at this side event will discuss what the business community can and will  do to turbo charge the SG’s vision of a sustainable recovery that will support resilient societies, with a special focus on this year’s cluster of SDGs for consideration, in particular relevant to education, gender equality, food and energy security.

Yet as the Secretary-General and several member states have noted, the private sector is key to delivering the 2030 Agenda.  Extraordinary efforts will be needed to make up for lost ground and accelerate progress, and all societal partners will need to join forces with government and other stakeholders.
