Rebuilding the World We Want: Youth Driving the 2030 Agenda

Restless Development

Young people are allies and drivers of the 2030 Agenda, yet too often their participation is tokenized and their voices unheard.

This virtual event will provide a platform to celebrate and share success stories of how young people have been rebuilding the world we need and want by 2030, and encourage other young people to take action. It will further seek to inspire and inform Member States how they can practically partner with youth to rebuild and meaningfully involve them in decision making processes.

Young people and decision makers, including the UN Youth Envoy (invited) and the Ambassador for Youth, Education and Work from the Netherlands (invited) will come together have an honest and open conversation on how to avoid youth tokenism in decision making spaces, ensure meaningful participation especially of those most marginalised in a post COVID world and amplify the thousands of youth voices from grassroots initiatives around the world.

The conversation will be moderated by members of the Youth Power Panel, a group of young leaders challenging power dynamics, championing inclusion, accessibility and accountability in the 2030 Agenda and beyond.   It will encourage youth participants to join a powerful new global campaign that will shine a spotlight on how their governments have been including them in the COVID recovery and rebuilding efforts. The campaign will profile success stories specifically on issues of  education, climate action, gender & partnerships that young people have been part of.

We will seek to engage a virtual audience with interactive tools and activities during the event, and create space for discussion.
