ECE Regional Civil Society Engagement Mechanism
The Global North (including many countries of our region) have long ignored the effects of their impact via carbon emissions, weapon sales, extraction of natural resources and human resources from the Global South. With the intersecting and multiple excruciating crises our world faces, Global North countries can no longer ignore the impacts of their actions as these impacts have started to emerge in the Global North countries, through hurricanes, wars next door, fear of nuclear war and food insecurity and the resulting high inflation, among others. We, the civil society of the ECE region, are calling our governments and all governments of the Global North to stop ignoring the impacts of their actions and start stepping up to their responsibilities for the wellbeing for all the people and the planet. We hope this side event, rather than just being critical and pessimistic, can show good practices and efforts listening to the needs and the truth of people of the Global South, and the solidarity exhibited by organizations on the Global North through holding advocacy with their governments and amplifying the voices from the Global South.
