Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLOCAT)
Gender equality is essential for thriving, prosperous communities. Despite growing initiatives to include more women in our sector and better gender perspectives in transport services, much work remains.
COVID-19 has also created profound shocks to transport and mobility worldwide, and these impacts are especially pronounced on women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons. Effective responses to the pandemic to serve these groups include enhancing public transport and active mobility options; supporting essential workers, and delivering essential services.
In VNRs, the linkages between transport and the SDGs are mostly oriented around infrastructure, public transport, energy, road safety and climate mitigation. This side event will focus on the growing attention given to the social dimension of sustainable transport development, with the aim to establish a stronger case for how transport contributes to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) of the 2030 Agenda in order to ‘Leave No One Behind.
