Tackling the global cost-of-living crisis: the importance of driving forward development during emergencies

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

Top speakers from governments, development partners, think tanks and academia will showcase examples of emergency policy choices to mitigate the cost-of-living crisis - through programmes and interventions that smoothed households' consumption and thus the SDG reversal curve across food security, incomes, poverty, jobs and other dimensions of well-being, especially in fragile/crisis contexts. Participants will be encouraged to reflect upon their specific experience in implementing the 2030 Agenda, concrete challenges to SDG achievement posed by the pandemic but also lessons learned from the policy responses to COVID-19, including adaptive social protection against impoverishment risks, and practical steps to turn the crisis into an opportunity for a concerted push towards a sustainable, inclusive and resilient future.
