The contribution of multilateral cooperation to SDG17 : SDG stakeholder mapping in Francophonie, a tool to foster innovative partnerships

Organisation internationale de la Francophonie

The United Nations 2030 Agenda and its 17 SDGs highlight key issues that call for urgent action at all levels and by all actors. The SDGs can only be realized with strong global partnerships and cooperation. To meet these challenges, the Institut de la Francophonie pour le développement durable (IFDD), a subsidiary body of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), is committed to increasing the capacity of Francophone countries to develop and implement regional programs, national and local strategies for sustainable development that are inclusive, participatory and results-oriented.  Within the framework of the Global Forum for National SDG Advisory Bodies, together with the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE), the Maison de la Société Civile (MdSC) in Bénin and the Groupe de Travail des Organisations de la Société Civile sur les ODD (GT-OSC-ODD) in Togo, IFDD has developed a project to strengthen the visibility and networking of civil society organizations working on the implementation of SDGs in Bénin and in Togo.

This side-event, organized by the IFDD, on behalf of the Global Forum for National SDG Advisory Bodies, will highlight these efforts to achieve innovative partnerships for sustainable development.  Two civil society umbrella organizations from Bénin and Togo will feature insights and their experience in conducting round tables to foster societal dialogue and advocacy for sustainable development. Mapping active stakeholders, bringing them into dialogue and digitally visualizing their engagement accelerates delivery through enhanced collaboration and transparency of existing action areas. In dialogue with national government representatives, the two organizations will discuss the role of enhancing visibility to uncover interlinkages between SDG stakeholders and develop innovative partnerships for further coordination and knowledge sharing. Enhancing social acceptance of transformation by promoting an inclusive whole-of-society approach and by fostering participation in multi-stakeholder partnerships has proven to be a successful path for equipping national governments with a valuable shortcut to accelerating sustainable development policymaking.
