The 2022 UN Secretary General Progress Report providing a global overview of the current situation of the Sustainable Development Goals calls for “an urgent rescue effort”. The Secretary General recognizes that the interlinked global crises; namely the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis and the impacts of the conflict in Ukraine is putting the achievement of the SDGS at great risk. Accordingly the report emphasizes the need for a new social contact to rebuild trust, solve shared problems, manage risks and pool resources to deliver global public goods. It reminds to the international community that we have to “turbo-charge our efforts to rescue the SDGs and deliver meaningful progress for people and planet by 2030 – stepping up our work to transform the international financial architecture; driving major economic transitions and renewing the social contract; and investing in data systems.”
The side event will provide an occasion to present Arab voices on this interlinked global crisis, opening up exchanges with international and regional experts unpacking this crisis context.
