The Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework: Building Back Better and Advancing Implementation of the SDGs

Convention on Biological Diversity

The Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, currently being negotiated under the auspices of the Convention on Biological Diversity and set for adoption at COP 15 in Kunming, China later this year, represents a historic opportunity to adopt a global agreement that can help advance the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and send a positive political signal to the world at large.

The side event is particularly relevant to  the proceedings and deliberations at  the 2022 HLPF since it will take up inter alia SDG 14 (life below water) and SDG15 (life on land) for intensive review.

The side event will highlight how implementation of the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework can accelerate the realization of the SDGs in an inclusive manner. By underscoring the shared recognition of the urgent need for action on nature, this event can help build political momentum for the upcoming CBD negotiations in Nairobi in June and for the successful adoption of an ambitious and transformative framework at COP 15 in Kunming. It will also inspire international solidarity and multilateral cooperation to improve biodiversity conservation and develop more integrated approaches to support early implementation. Moreover, the event will help inform and empower Parties and stakeholders to start implementing the new framework.
