Universal and Meaningful Connectivity through Multistakeholder Cooperation

CANCELLED: International Peace Institute

In the decade of action, as part of the UN Secretary General’s Roadmap for Digital Cooperation, Information and communication technologies (ICTs) can help accelerate progress towards every single one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To achieve success in this space, cooperation is required across all actors.

COVID-19 increased global reliance on digital technologies and further exacerbated the growing digital divide between and within societies. Universal access to the digital world has become more urgent than ever, especially in the least developed countries (LDCs). Failure to connect the disconnected in a meaningful way could undermine progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. For that reason, closing the digital divide and increasing connectivity are among the secretary-general’s priorities for 2022.

This event will bring together multi-sectoral actors to discuss universal, affordable, and sustainable connectivity, especially to LDCs. Designing a roadmap to digital cooperation, it will highlight the various resources required to achieve meaningful universal connectivity.
