Division for Public Institutions and Digital Governance
The side-event will address Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to quality education (SDG4), gender equality (SDG 5), and partnerships (SDG 17) as well as the principles of effective governance for sustainable development, in particular the principles of leaving no one behind, broad participation, and intergenerational equity. The event will provide a platform to discuss how to empower the younger generation to engage in institution building and public services delivery and become critical drivers in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, particularly in countries emerging from conflicts. Young people represent most of the population in the developing world, accounting for more than 70 percent of the population in many countries, and it is vital to engage this large part of the population in global efforts to achieve intergenerational equity and sustainable development. The speakers will contribute to enhancing the discussions of the HLPF by providing a broader and in-depth conversation about the role of the younger generation in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, focusing on issues of quality education, gender equality and global partnerships for sustainable development in fragile settings. They will share innovative practices and lessons learned and suggest innovative strategies to foster youth citizenship engagement after the pandemic.
