Youth Leading with Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) to Achieve the SDGs

Young Diplomats of Canada (YDC)

“Building back better” requires builders. With more than 1.8 billion young people around the world, youth make up the largest generation that this world has ever seen. It is impossible to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 without the active participation of the largest generation of changemakers. Simultaneously, our world is being transformed by new technologies and a growing digital infrastructure. It is a crucial time to invest in youth to ensure a generation does not get left behind, as well as supporting youth who are leveraging digital infrastructure and technologies to achieve the SDGs in their regions and around the world.

The COVID-19 pandemic has illuminated and exacerbated the structural nature of global inequalities and their negative impacts on sustainable development. Bringing together young leaders from across Canada and organisations that support digital and scientific inclusion, the panel discussion will consider the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the Sustainable Development Goals and STI development and consider how youth are being included or excluded both domestically and internationally. To progress towards equitable post-pandemic recovery, we must unpack the notion of digital inclusion and acknowledge that young people are the innovators that will lead the charge towards 2030 and beyond.
