TEDxUNPlaza
Visionaries, innovators and problem solvers from around the world gathered at the TEDxUNPlaza event, “BRAVE: United in Action,” on 16 September 2013 at the newly renovated ECOSOC Chamber of the UN Headquarters in New York.
TEDxUNPlaza is an independent forum hosted at the United Nations in the spirit of TED’s motto of Ideas Worth Spreading. The event, organized by the TEDx community of volunteers with the support of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the UN Office for Partnerships, is part of DESA’s effort to promote a vision for human progress that goes well beyond promoting global agreements. It calls for stimulating, mobilizing and generating action for progress and change towards “The Future We Want”.
The event was moderated by journalist Joris Luyendijk and curated by experienced TEDx organizers Eiso Vaandrager, Kunal Sood and Costa Michailidis. It consisted of four themed sessions: Women’s Empowerment, Change Everything, Ideas to Action and Being Human, covering a wide range of topics, including climate change, healthcare, poverty eradication, sustainable energy, education and employment, youth and volunteerism, women’s empowerment, technology and innovation, social entrepreneurship, competitive governance, leadership and philanthropy, the science of compassion, and sustainable lifestyle. The event was well attended by up to 500 participants on site and followed closely by over 7000 people globally.
Two curators of TEDxUNPlaza will deliver a message at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development on 24 September 2013 as part of the Forum’s efforts to promote multi-stakeholder participation in its deliberations.
