Ireland, UN-DESA Statistics Division
The multi-dimensional nature of the SDGs requires a sea change not only in how government and society work to implement the Goals, but also in how it monitors and reports on them. This will involve integrating statistics with geospatial information; earth observations; and other big data in a more holistic manner.
The Irish Central Statistics Office (CSO), in partnership with Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSi) and Esri Ireland have developed and deployed a new approach for monitoring the SDGs for Ireland using geographic information systems.
This event will showcase Ireland’s new approach, developed as part of a UNSD/Esri Research Exercise, for monitoring implementation of the SDGs, and will also provide a forum for cross-regional discussion on monitoring the SDGs and bridging data gaps through innovative tools such as geospatial visualisation, in order to achieve this goal of holistic statistical integration. Comments and interventions on country experience are welcomed.
A light breakfast will be served from 8am.
