Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction with Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) (TBC) and Jeunes Volontaires pour l'Enviornnement (JVE) Niger
With less than a decade to achieve the SDGs, the Covid-19 pandemic once again reminds us that sustainable development cannot be achieved without local level leadership. Local communities most at risk must be enabled to participate and influence decisions on development policies and practices. They have critical knowledge and experience of the threats they face and their consequences, the actions which help to reduce risk and barriers to those actions.
With this event, we aim to share perspectives from international, national and local actors on what localisation looks like from the perspective of local actors themselves, why it has not yet fully been achieved, what role international actors can play in supporting it.
The event will focus on looking ahead at the Covid-19 recovery and the opportunity to further mainstream localisation in building back better plans. The event will be structured as a panel discussion and Q&A session with the audience: the panel will include representatives from international cooperation agencies, members of local communities at risk, and representatives of civil society organisations working at national level to improve resilience.
By bringing local and international perspectives together we aim to stimulate a dialogue focused on practical solutions to the challenges of localisation, solutions that can work for both the international community of donors and the local actors working at the frontline.
