Why a holistic approach to SDGs?: From theory to reality!

Women's Major Group with Asia Pacific Forum on Law and Development (APWLD), Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women (ARROW), Education as a Vaccine (EVA), Fundación para Estudio e Investigación de la Mujer (FEIM), Gender Centru - Moldova International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), Kenana Association for Sustainable Development and Women Empowerment L’ Associació de Drets Sexuals I Reproductius, The African Women's Network for Community Management of Forests (REFACOF)

The event will focus on showcasing holistic approaches at all levels of Agenda 2030, and implementing the Agenda in the indivisible and intersectional manner that it was formulated to be. The siloed approach creates a false and detrimental way to review the SDGs because they are in fact interrelated and intersectional, and isolation alters the spirit of the Agenda.

WMG considers such a holistic approach as its method to analyze Agenda 2030 since its development. Member states sharing this holistic perspective to Agenda 2030, at all levels, will be invited to participate in the side event. Additionally an OHCHR representative will also be invited to emphasize the importance of the human rights perspective in consideration of this holistic approach. WMG members will explain the importance and the opportunities presented by this comprehensive approach to the SDGs, on the ground. A comprehensive and holistic approach will enable member states, UN institutions and civil society groups to understand interlinkages and integration across the SDGs, develop sustainable development frameworks and leverage opportunities for assessing synergies and tradeoffs.
