Delivering the 2030 Agenda: Aligning global processes through inclusive multilateralism

This official MGoS thematic session will bring together diverse stakeholders to explore how multilateralism can be renewed and strengthened to deliver on the promises of the 2030 Agenda. The session will center the role of civil society and other stakeholders in defending human rights, countering the growing backlash against inclusive development, and driving practical action—especially around SDG 5 (Gender Equality) SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), which are under in-depth review.

Proposed guiding questions:

  • In a world facing multiple crises and growing distrust in global governance, what are the most urgent actions we must take to defend and revitalize multilateralism?
  • How can civil society and other stakeholders help rebuild trust in multilateralism, and how do we ensure the leadership and voices of historically marginalized groups are central to that effort?
  • What are some concrete ways governments and stakeholders are working together to advance gender equality and decent work? What conditions have made these partnerships successful and what still holds them back?
  • With growing fragmentation and competing national agendas, how can we ensure that global commitments from CSW to FfD4 to the World Social Summit reinforce each other rather than work in silos?
  • How do we unlock political will and mobilize long-term financing for inclusive, participatory implementation of the 2030 Agenda especially in a time of austerity and backlash?
  • How can multilateral systems better reflect the priorities and lived realities of young people and future generations including those from communities that are most often left out of decision-making?
