Regional Perspectives on SDG Implementation

In view of the huge financing gaps and the need to increase speed and scale of implementation, Regional Commissions are at the forefront of strengthening the capacity of member States and other stakeholders to adopt and implement innovative financing mechanisms and solutions and good practices to accelerate SDG progress. In the lead up to the 2025 HLPF, the Regional Commissions convened Forums inspired by the theme of the 2025 HLPF. The Forums offered a platform to explore concrete actions to implement the outcomes of the Summit of the Future (Pact for the Future and its annexes) and to accelerate SDG progress. The Forums also provided platforms to articulate regional priorities and perspectives to inform deliberations of major global summits that drive SDG delivery, notably the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development and the Second World Summit for Social Development. Building on the outcomes of the Forums, this session will : (i) highlight unique and shared regional challenges and opportunities and advance regional priorities including innovative pathways, policy solutions and actions for accelerating the implementation of the SDGs; (ii) showcase concrete examples of initiatives by the Regional Commissions and partners with a focus on innovative financing mechanisms and good practices; (ii) facilitate cross-regional learning on workable, science- and evidence-based models and solutions; and (iv) illustrate the strategic offers and competitive advantages of the Regional Commissions in advancing implementation of the SDGs, including regional partnerships.

Proposed guiding questions:

  • What are the key regional priorities, strategies and solutions to scale actions to effectively follow-up to the Summit of the Future and achieve the SDGs?
  • What are the regional priorities regarding SDG implementation that should be addressed by the Second World Summit for Social Development with a view to stepping up the pace and scale of implementation of the SDGs?
  • What are some of the successful initiatives by the regional commissions and other partners to scale innovative financing mechanisms, partnerships and other good practices to implement the SDGs?
  • What are some successful examples of good practices in SDG implementation that can be replicated across the regions?
  • What is the strategic position, value propositions and competitive advantages of the Regional Commissions? How can these be leveraged to support members and to drive the implementation of SDGs and other development frameworks?

Interactive discussion:
Due to limited time and to maximise participation, interventions in interactive discussions should be limited to two to three minutes. The time limit will be strictly implemented, using a timing device and/or microphone cutoff as necessary. Depending on the number of requests for the floor in a given discussion, the time limit may be adjusted downward, as necessary. Participants are discouraged from reading prepared statements; instead, they are encouraged to make informal remarks and engage in an interactive discussion. Priority will be given to ministerial-level interventions.
