High-Level Political Forum

The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) took place from Tuesday, 9 July, to Thursday, 18 July 2019. The forum included a three-day ministerial segment from Tuesday, 16 July, to Thursday, 18 July 2019, as part of ECOSOC’s High-Level Segment (HLS). The ECOSOC HLS concluded on Friday, 19 July 2019. The theme for the 2019 HLPF was “Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality".

In line with the integrated and interlinked nature of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the HLPF 2019 conducted in-depth reviews the following goals: Goal 4: Quality education; Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth; Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities; Life below water; Goal 13: Climate Action; Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions; and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Forty-seven countries presented their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), sharing their progress on the 2030 Agenda. Participating countries in 2019 included:

Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Chile, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Croatia, Eswatini, Fiji, Ghana, Guatemala, Guyana, Iceland, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lesotho , Liechtenstein, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mongolia, Nauru, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Palau, Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Lucia, Serbia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tunisia, TürkiyeTurkmenistan, United Kingdom, United Republic of Tanzania, Vanuatu.

In addition to the main sessions, the HLPF 2019 featured 156 Side Events, 17 VNR Labs, 8 Special Events, and 36 Exhibitions held on the margins of the forum, offering opportunities for deeper engagement and collaboration.
